The groove in the inner ring is a little shallower than that of fixed ball bearings and the external diameter of the outer ring on the opening side is cylindrical at the bottom of the groove. Consequently, the outer ring is separable, which makes it convenient for mounting the bearing. Usually, two parts in this kind of equipment are put against each other in the applications. They have reduced size, 4 to 30 mm bore diameter, and are used mainly in small generators, (Magneto), gyroscope and directing instruments.
Normally, pressed brass cages are used.
